What is the “Nezushiki Kaigogijutsu”?
- A care technique designed after the developer experienced the need for care himself
- Over 5,000 people a year take our courses on commission from public sector organizations
- Used as part of a compulsory class for medical students at Saitama Medical University
- Standing Committee established at Saitama Medical University
- Used as a standard care technique by the Saitama Medical University Group
- Published as a “care technique bible” by Kodansha
- Multiple overseas organizations have now applied to introduce “Nezushiki Kaigogijutsu”
“Nezushiki Kaigogijutsu” was adopted as the standard caregiving technique by Saitama Medical University Group, the first hospital in Japan to receive certification from the Joint Commission International (JCI), an international hospital functionality evaluation organization, and is the first quality-assured caregiving technique in the world. In the Nursing Department, it is mandatory for new graduates to take a course on “Nezushiki Kaigogijutsu” when they are hired, and facilitators who have mastered “Nezushiki Kaigogijutsu” are assigned to each hospital. So far, 3,000 nurses of Saitama Medical University Group have learned “Nezushiki Kaigogijutsu” and are already using it in general hospital wards. It has been highly evaluated by medical staff that "back pain" has been markedly reduced. In addition, a training course on “Nezushiki Kaigogijutsu” has been held for doctors, and many students have expressed interest in learning “Nezushiki Kaigogijutsu”. Currently, doctors, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and students are working together to spread “Nezushiki Kaigogijutsu” in the community.
A care technique that does not need strength, and can be performed with five simple operations

People who “Use Shorinji Kempo Techniques in Care” can not only push someone over, they can also stand them up.
The caregiving technique developed by Mr. Nezu is a natural physical manipulation that is easy on the human body, allowing both caregiver and care receiver to move without stress.

This technique is a gift from heaven for those of us who have to live within an extremely elderly society.
Professor Nezu's care technique, eliminates the burden placed on the lower back, and means that the carer can control the movement of the person they are caring for, help them stand up, and get them into bed, without excess effort.
When I first saw this, I was truly amazed to realize that the fundamental principles of Shorinji Kempo had been applied to assist extremely elderly people.

Nurse KA, 50 years old
By assisting the patient in a certain position, most nurses are likely to have back pain. This is the very "forceful nursing care" that the teacher mentioned. I learned that the five key points of caregiving without burden are "pulling," "pushing," "turning," "touching," and "changing the fulcrum. First, as the teacher explained, he actually repositioned a staff member playing the role of a patient with one arm and one finger. I was also impressed by the teacher's advice, and when I tried the position change, I thought to myself, "I can really do that! I was so impressed. I would like to teach it to other staff members.

Nurse SI, 62 years old
I listened to this lecture with a feeling of "the scales falling from my eyes. I was clinging to the patient's body, grasping the elastic part of the back of his pants and pulling him up by force to transfer him to a wheelchair. I felt a sense of self-satisfaction that I had transferred the patient to the wheelchair despite my back pain, but I wondered how the patient felt. I felt again that the lecturer's method of assistance was truly a method of assistance that did not place a burden on the patient. I also felt that it is a necessary technique for healthcare professionals to develop the patient's residual abilities.

Name: SA (1st year medical student)
I remembered my late grandfather telling me that before he died, nursing care he taken was very strong and painful. Listening to today's lecture, I learned that caregiving does not require force. I wished I had known about it when my grandfather was still alive. When I become a doctor in the future, I would like to practice and master what I learned today and learn for the sake of future patients so that there will be as few people as my grandfather who feel pain from nursing care in the future.

Name: TA (1st year medical student)
In today's lecture, we learned a nursing care technique that can be done with only one arm and that does not put any strain on the back. The five key points of this nursing care technique are pulling, pushing, turning, touching, and changing the fulcrum. As I watched the nurses practice the techniques, I was impressed that they were surprised to find that they really did not need much strength after trying the teacher’s caregiving techniques. When I tried it on a family member after the class, I was surprised that I could get the person out of bed with little effort, even though I had only a few fingers attached to the person.
Introducing the Book/DVD
Realistically, care work is mostly still done using physical strength, which places a burden both on the carer, and on the person being cared for.
I hope that you will use these books and DVDs to repeatedly learn and implement the techniques.
I hope that my care techniques will spread throughout the world, and be useful to all.
